It’s been a long process and resulted in over $1 billion in lost investment, but the stalemate on a renewed Renewable Energy Target (RET) is over. Bipartisan support behind a 33,000GWh target was demonstrated today when the Senate passed an amendment to legislation.
What does this mean? Renewable energy developers, such as those backing the Low Head Wind Farm proposal, can now invest with slightly more confidence that the revenue from generating Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) will remain until 2030. Without this component of revenue, wind farms would struggle to be competitive and could effectively cease being part of Australia’s energy mix.
Specific to Low Head Wind Farm, a number of parties have shown interest in developing this project over the past 2 years, and with the RET now confirmed, are now actively engaging with Low Head Wind Farm Pty Ltd to accelerate its completion. More on this to come…
