A Turnbull government means predictability for the wind sector

Today Malcolm Turnbull ‘shirt-fronted’ Tony Abbott on his leadership abilities and won the majority vote to lead the Australian Liberal Party.  Prime Minister Turnbull has a history of supporting private development in the renewable energy sector, so this change of leadership is welcomed.

Until now, the Low Head Wind Farm has been delayed in finalising its proposal due primarily to the Abbott government.  Several attempts to undermine this industry, and the revenue it receives from a stable Renewable Energy Target (RET), had taken its toll on all Australian wind farm developments in a significant and measurement manner.  These actions range from appointing Dick Warburton as RET Review Panel Chairperson (17 February 2014), Joe Hockey as Treasurer describing wind turbines as “utterly offensive” (1 May 2014) Tony Abbott as Prime Minister referring to wind farms as “visually awful” (10 June 2015) and “ugly” (15 June 2015).

Where is Low Head Wind Farm now?  The market perception on LGC stability and Federal bipartisan support has strengthened, and so has the demand for projects like Low Head Wind Farm.  The company is now engaged with preferred developers, and a final Development Application is expected to be submitted for Council assessment by April 2016.
